House Bill 2429, which would have expanded local control over short-term rentals, appears unlikely to move forward this legislative session.

Introduced by Rep. Selina Bliss (R-Prescott), the bill proposed several new regulations on short-term rentals, including limits on overnight occupancy, granting local municipalities additional authority to revoke STR licenses for health and safety violations, and establishing a three-strike violation rule within a 24-month period.

Efforts to revive the bill faced additional challenges after it failed to make the Senate Appropriations Committee agenda on March 31. With committee deadlines now passed in both chambers, the legislation’s path forward is extremely limited.

While Rep. Bliss has indicated she is not giving up on the proposal, the likelihood of it advancing this year appears very low. Read more from the Arizona Capitol Times.
